Incentives or Prize draw?

Did anyone run some research on the effectiveness of a prize draw vs incentives/rewards mechanism? Did we see any clear correlation between the rewarding system and response rate?

was a famous piece of graffiti on the M40 motorway in the UK. We often concern ourselves with why do respondents quit but do we ever ask ourselves "why do they stay?" maybe this woud be a more fruitful line of enquiry. Any thoughts?

Rewards *or* Incentives?

Anyone else think we should settle on a term for payments to participants? Personally I don't believe this small payments are incentive to do anything (and not much of a reward... but there you go). If they were incentives surely we'd see a positive correlation between levels of payment and response rates.
